Something completely different

Yesterday we found something totally new, cool and at the same time quite absurd. After a nice lunch at Don Papa’s, an italian restaurant near the University campus, we decided to go and see the Chrysler building and the area. Yes, there is a such building in Ningbo! This beautiful tower is a good landmark especially by night.

Walking towards the tower, we ended up to a… vegetable and clothes market! Just beneath the high-tech  buildings, there it was. This really is a country of contradictions!

But of course we couldn’t get to the skyscrapers from there, the street just suddenly ended.  We walked around a huge construction field surrounded with a brick wall.

What will we find here next year?

And on the other side... some skyscrapers

What we found then, was like a ghost town. Beautiful towers – many of them looked curiously familiar from New York or some other place – but there was no life, except some guards.

Where have I seen this earlier?

We kept walking and found ourselves… in the middle of a luxury shopping district without any shops (except one) or people! We wanted to take the nice escalator and the tunnel to the other side, but it was blocked. A good walk around the block and across the street and we found more and more. Nice modern architecture, all build by the canal, with beautiful bridges, all detailed, all finished.  Even landskaping was finished, huge palm trees and everything. It felt kind of spooky without any people!  What is this place? When will it open?

We later found out that the area is called the Silver Walk, a new business district. I also found out that they are expecting about 3 million inhabitants to move into Ningbo next year. No wonder the whole Yinzhou area is under construction!

On the way back home, we also found a huge, beautiful park area.  It was a really nice walk back to Niko’s school, I’m still quite excited about that. Can’t wait the new cafés to open, looks like this will be our new favorite park!
